LandichoEver wondered where to find forms to declare your MTA? Tired of forgetting when a talk or free-food event is taking place? Ever wanted to interact with faculty beyond an email or academic setting?

Enter MyGSocial. Fueled by a growing need to connect and integrate the academic and social aspects of the Mount Sinai community, Ross Cagan, Ianne Landicho, and Jose Diaz (along with a team of other individuals) created this online community site to serve as a centralized hub that faculty and students can use to gain access to various resources such as the Y-Pass System, event invitations, academic Q&As, website links, and form access. Comfort and warmth envelope you on your first step into Yo In Yo Out Bistro, located between bistro100th and 101st Sts. on Lexington Ave. Jade Al-Hassani, the owner, hostess, and server – and sister of the head chef, Yoanne “Yo” Magris – greets you with the friendliest “E-llo” and explains the specials of the day in a way that makes you feel like you’re visualizing the creation of the dishes in front of you. Having lived in France, Saint Barth in the Caribbean, and Saudi Arabia, Jade is passionate about meeting people and about fusion cuisine. The restaurant opened on Valentine’s Day, 2009, which is fitting, because Jade has put her heart and soul into her business: “Each customer I treat like he or she is part of my family.”

Ross Cagan, PhD, took up the post of Associate Dean of the Mount Sinai Graduate School of Biological Sciences last summer.

It is better than I feared but not as effective as it could be. Every system runs down and needs to change periodically, and those running the courses have already taken several steps to improve it. In addition to canvassing the medical school, I assembled a team of Sinai colleagues and students to discuss improvements. We have taken a fresh look and developed a set of specific improvements. Basically, the goal has been to develop more coherence between the different sections and to make it more relevant to today's trainees. You’ll be hearing more about our plans shortly. Further down the line, I personally would like to see the curriculum shortened and intensified.
